Perihelion Concentration of Comets I. Discussion of the Published Methods
The problem of (non)random distribution of points on the sphere is investigated. Published procedures for obtaining preferred direction and preferred plane for points on the sphere (in the sky) are discussed. It is shown that the published methods are incorrect, and, as a consequence, the results obtained by these methods cannot be considered to be significant.
متن کاملComet 322P/SOHO1: an asteroid with the smallest perihelion distance?
We observed comet 322P/SOHO 1 (P/1999 R1) from the ground and with the Spitzer Space Telescope when it was between 2.2 and 1.2 AU from the Sun. These are the first observations of any SOHO-discovered periodic comet by a non-solar observatory, and allow us to investigate its behavior under typical cometary circumstances. 322P appeared inactive in all images. Its lightcurve suggests a rotation pe...
متن کاملPerihelion Evolution of Observed New Comets Implies the Dominance of the Galactic Tide in Making Oort Cloud Comets Discernable
For an Oort cloud comet to be seen as a new comet, its perihelion must be moved from a point exterior to the loss cylinder boundary to a point interior to observable limits in a single orbit. The galactic tide can do this continuously, in a non-impulsive manner. Near-parabolic comets, with specific angular momentum H ∝ √q, will most easily be made observable. Therefore, to reduce the perihelion...
متن کاملAtmospheric Holes and Small Comets
Global images of Earth’s ultraviolet dayglow as gained with an imaging photometer on board Dynamics Explorer 1 exhibit transient decreases, or atmospheric holes, in the dayglow intensities over areas with diameters ~50 km. Features of these atmospheric holes include (1) preferential motion in the east-to-west direction across the sunlit face of Earth, (2) similar diurnal variations in occurrenc...
متن کاملSmall and Medium Enterprises Financing in Bangladesh: The Missing Middle
This paper aims to comprehend the intrinsic limitations of the market players in the financial system and how these create a situation of `missing middle` for small and medium industries (SME) financing in Bangladesh. A clear dualism prevails in the manufacturing industry of this country. While the SMEs maintains the biggest share in establishments and employment creation, large enterprises (LE...
